Feminism was the beginning of a voice for women. It opened up many doors for women. It was the beginning of rights and equality, and it changed the world for the better in many ways. Without the feminist movement, most of us would not have bank accounts, ownership of assets, jobs, the ability to leave an abusive situation, the ability to be heard. We have come a long way, thanks to the brave women who cared.
Recently millions of women got out and marched for women’s rights, some from great motives, others not so much. Rights just aren’t right if they involve drowning out the rights of others, lacking respect for life itself. It won’t matter how loud you are, the outcome will never produce satisfaction or justice. I say this as a woman, who fully believes that women should be treated as any other human being.
It is important to be proactive, rather than reactive, which means getting to the root of the issues. What we are dealing with now more than ever before are family issues, issues of sexuality, it is no longer about oppressed women. Issues that we have the power to change based on how we live our own lives, live out our responsibilities, morals and beliefs, starting in our very own homes.
Women’s rights are no more important than a child’s (unborn or not), no more so than men’s rights. Be careful what you fight for, if it is for anything other than love for all people, anything that turns one gender against another, rips child from mother, only tragedy is imminent. Fight for real equality. Fight for real unity, men, women, and children. Most of all, fight for all lives to be valued.
Ladies, empower yourselves, but do so in humility and kindness. Fight, but fight for greater good, love, and concern for all lives. Speak up, but do so respectfully. And with anything you do, do so in love, compassion, and gratitude. This event marks our history, the world is watching. Remember to look beneath the surface, remember to consider more than our own gender, remember the change starts with you – in your life, in your home, and in your actions. Love has the most gentle yet most powerful voice.
